Well after my Christmas bonus and after Egypt and after Polina's tickets to Russia and after doing our tax return and expecting a refund - it's finally time!
We did some half hearted searching together previously deciding on what we wanted etc... and given that we have slightly weird measurements we were not surprised that nothing from a shop will fit properly where we need it to go. Apart from which I baulk at paying over 600€ for a cupboard where the shelves are not flat and the pen from the layout is still clearly visible, forget about the doors that don't open and close properly.
So we got some carpenters in to have a look - while some of their quotes are "reasonable for what we expect them to do" - it still turns out to be more money than we're willing to pay.
So that means it's do it yourself time again. After a couple of reconnaissance trips to Bauhaus (the local Bunnings equivalent) and another "old fashioned" (the people who work there are related in a vaguely Tasmanian sense, but they know what they're talking about) hardware store looking at wood and bits and pieces I finally went shopping yesterday. Managed to spend a whole lot of money in the seven hours that I spent there finding everything we'll need for the various cupboards.
I bought home a big bag of bits and a large order sheet the biggest items on which are a pair of sliding doors which will need to be carried up the 15 floors as they will be too big for the lifts :-(
and eight giant (2900 x 600 x 40mm) Acacia planks for the lounge room - Bauhaus will thankfully cut them to size so they will go in the lift :-)
Bag of Bits and Acacia planks (not a great photo, but that's what you get):

The wood will arrive on Thursday - hopefully the saw and the router that I ordered online will be here by then too. I've already made space for the two things I plan to do first.
1. The Office
Before and then ready for installing the cupboard:

2. The Hallway
Stuff moved ready to install - that pipe, apart from being a major pain in the arse is also the drainage from the roof (another 10 floors above us) - this runs through every single apartment in line with ours, and the same thing happens a few more times - what ever happened to outdoor downpipes I will never understand!

3. The Lounge Room
Not much to report here - some plans for the layout so that I could get the right boards and a computer mock up that looks nothing like how it will really look in the end:

More as things progress.
Jack...
