We started early at 7:15 this morning. First it was a very steep rocky descent for about two hours. On one of the turnoffs there were three ibex that ran across our path. I now have a lot of respect for them as being very solid animals with big horns.
The descent continued for the next 2.5 hrs to the town of Les Contamines. On the way we came across a beautiful gorge and a cute old church. We had a warm lunch in town and then set off on our ascent to the refuge for the night. The first part of the ascent was tough, as it was the hottest part of the day and the first part of the path ran along open asphalt roads. But then after about 150 vertical meters the path entered a forest. It had a beautiful smell of warm pines.
Around 16:30 we arrived at the Refuge de Miage. It lies in a gorgeous valley overlooking an impressive face of the Dome de Miage (around 3600 meters). Now dinner and well deserved rest. Today we walked the furthest distance so far of 20km.
Highlight of the day : having our own little cottage for the night and a hot shower in the end of the day. πΏππ️
Lowlight of the day : breakfast at the Refugio. There were only bowls (for dry DYI porridge) and same bowls to use for coffee (no cups!) π€
