Five months - the feet fascination

It's the sunniest day in the last two weeks today... and that makes me happy. Apart from the fact that Tim is now officially five months. Where is this time going?! I seem to be busy with something every single day and if you ask me what is it that I'm busy with, I wouldn't be able to tell you... time is just flying and disappearing.

Tim discovered feet. It's the first thing that he's been doing in the mornings all this week - trying to grab his feet. So I've been putting sock rattles onto them (thanks once again to Sam D for those - they're just great!), to make it more fun for him to grab them.

He also seems to have discovered Unix. He now follows the cat's movements around the room and if Unix comes closer then Tim tries to pat him, and makes the funniest giggle when Unix walks under his hand, tickling him with his fur. As always Unix has proven that he is the kindest and laziest creature to walk this planet because he lets Timmy do anything with himself. This so far thankfully only meant that Tim tags on handfuls of Unix's fur without Unix being too upset and generally would love to stick the whole of Unix into his mouth, but that's still a little tough for size. These interactions constantly bring back memories of my little bro, who would torture our poor cat Snewchi (Rus. Снюхи... don't ask) when he was about 2 or 3 y.o. He'd throw the poor thing into the fire on Grandpa's country house, he repeatedly tried to drown it, and generally did many many nasty things to this creature, who was Unix Number 2, in that he never ever bit him or tried to claw him and just endured these tortures as if he knew that Gleb is just a little boy who is learning about cause and effect :)

And cucumbers - Tim's been fascinated with them and gets very excited when I eat some... so I decided giving him a couple... he was very curious.

This week Timmy and I went to our first Krabbelgruppe, aka "crawling group". It's run by an English speaking Meetup group. There were 7 women with their babies there... aged between 3 and 9 months. Tim wasn't as excited as he was at the baby massage, but it could be because to go there he had to be picked up out of his warm bed and missed out on his regular nap. I, however, got to learn all those English nursery rhymes that I didn't know. Such as "old McDonald had a farm", and the "wheels on the bus". I think Tim was also confused why I was talking and singing to him in a different language, but so far I haven't managed to find such a group in Russian. May be I should try to organise one? Sort of Melbourne Uni Russian Club style... except for babies and with no alcohol... hmmm... now that I think about it - it doesn't sound as much fun though!

In baby unrelated news Jack has been a busy bee this week pretty much spending his after-work evenings at the hardware store buying wood and planks for the drawers in the loungeroom. On Tue he also took the regional train to the nearby land of Brandenburg to pick up two old kiddy beds that we bought on eBay, out of which we hope to make sides for Tim's larger bed... as the cradle is going to be too short in the next couple of months. Today though we'll try to do something family-oriented given the 5 month occasion.

Oh yeah, last Sunday we met up with Christine and Tim's little friend Finlay at a Siberian restaurant and we discovered that there they serve bear meat, amongst other interesting dishes, like pelmeni out of reindeer and elk...

In one week Timmy's grandma Emmi is coming all the way from Melbourne and we all can't wait to see her - yey!!!

  1. That reminds me I keep thinking I'll post about Maya's relationship with our cat.

We were given those foot & wrist rattles too, which were great in the car to keep her entertained. :)
