In 2005 PJs left the friendly shores of Down Under and went on a European adventure. Berlin is now home to the two of them and their two sons - Tim and Tom. The current happenings appear here with questionable regularity ;) Stay tuned...
I read this book for the first time last year, and was amazed not only by his phenomenal memory but also by his insightful analysis of the situation in Russia. It's a political commentary as much as it is an account of a personal tragedy. Enjoy!
I can't speak about Gulag Archipelago, but I've just recently finished reading a russian book on the same topic - "Krutoy Marshrut" (Крутой маршрут), by Евгения Гинзбург (http://www.lib.ru/PROZA/GINZBURG_E/hrshrout.txt). Highly recommended - there is a moment when the people who had trialed her end up in the camps themselves.
Since I don't get much time to read nowadays and usually end up reading only few pages/paragraphs at the time (and afterward have lots of time to think about what I read), I wonder if maybe it is better to read less, but get more out of what one reads.

ReplyDeleteYour work experience project sounds wonderfully interesting.
ReplyDeleteAre you reading it in Russian or English? I have English translation, but keep on hoping to get it in Russian one day
I think the human tetris is funny. There's other ones - e.g. space invaders.
