Kitchen
A while ago we measured up our flat and went out and bought a kitchen, this is not a cheap kitchen by any standards. They sent a dude around with his laser measuring implements and digital display protractors cause they don't trust us to do it properly. This was a problem because as it turns out I was right with my trusty tape measure and he was wrong, to the tune of 10+cm over a total distance of 3m - that's not a very accurate laser me thinks.
Other than that they didn't deliver the insides to one cupboard (it's supposed to slide out so you can get to stuff at the back), and they managed to manufacture every single door wrongly *sighs* none of the handles fit so they have to come back and replace the entire front of the kitchen.
To boot they've chipped part of the granite bench top, thankfully one of the small bits. They also managed to not do up the drain connections for the sink correctly so there is water leaking which has dripped into the cupboard and ruined the bottom of the cupboard - that's gonna be a fun one for them to fix seeing it is right in the corner jammed in by everything else under the back of the 220kg large granite bench top... There's a dude coming Wednesday night to see about that, wonder what he will say.
Bathroom
Our bathroom is coming along nicely - Willie our ultra cool tile laying dude - is making fairly short work of it, now that the tiles have actually finished arriving by snail from Italy - yes we're posh b*stards - pity it took 7 weeks for them to get here.
Once Willie is done the plumber will have to install the sink, taps and shower - we've rigged up the loo in a temporary fashion so that even if I can't wash at home I can still use the loo.
I hope he'll be finished this week - the showers at the gym are pretty terrible plus they cost 50 cents for about 5 minutes.
Progress
Still need to do a few things although I guess we are progressing well:
- ceilings in the lounge room and hallway that I stuffed up the first time round - must buy more paint too
- paint the green wall in the bedroom
- second coat of the red wall in the lounge room
- second coat of the hallways, entryway
- some touching up where we've bashed things that have already been painted
- I've pulled the old glass out of the old doors - now will have to see about cutting them to fit behind the kitchen bench, doing the cut-outs for power points is gonna be lots of fun - will see how many I can break.
- Still have to clean up the tiles in the kitchen and get the sides/skirting put on
- Have to buy the normal skirting boards and fit those
- Same goes for cornices
- Same goes for curtain rails and curtains - although curtains will become Polina's problem after we get back from Russia, there's some things I'm not game to try ;-)
- Paint the pipes for the heaters which we tried to unsuccessfully "un-paint" - live and learn.
- The electrician has to come by and replace all of the light switches which are of the wrong type with some that are the right type - hopefully he wont stuff up too much of our painting.
- Need to do smth about build in cupboards - the two old doors with a shovel and broom handle are only good for so long after all...
Will post some photos tonight after pool if I can.
Sounds like the standard renovation problems. :-)
